Hello to you, whoever is reading this.  My name is Paul Kenneth Burns…but since I am not that formal (and I use my middle name more than the first,) just call me Kenny.  I am a new student to Towson University, I am also a transfer student to TU, which makes me a junior.  The good news is that it only took me ten years to get to this point in my college career.

I started attending college in 1999 at Prince George’s Community College.  I had a strong start there, only to flame out ultimately.  So from August 1999 until December 2000, with six months in 2002, I started my college career there.  So I guess if you factor in a one year break (all of 2001) I spent a year and a half at PGCC.

Then three years later I continued my studies at Anne Arundel Community College, the school where I transferred from.  I enjoyed more academic success at AACC than I did Prince George’s.  I have to be honest.  Anne Arundel Community College is a better institution that PGCC.  I do not know if it has improved since I went there…at least I hope it has.

Now, the other reason why it has taken me ten years to get this point.  For the past ten years, I have enjoyed a broadcasting career of some fashion.  I started as an intern at WTOP-AM/FM in Washington, DC in 1999.  That internship lasted one month, because they hired me on a freelance basis.  I eventually worked my way up to be a weekender.

After I decided that I would want to do more than sit behind the scenes, I decided to step out of faith and find some practical on air experience.  That delivered me to the door of Pat Sajak!  At least one of Pat’s properties.  The Wheel of Fortune host owns WNAV-AM in Annapolis, Maryland, where I spent three years doing everything short of sales and heavy duty engineering.  I have no met Pat Sajak in person however.  Now that I am back at the station working part-time, I hope that day will soon come.

I also work part-time for traffic.com in Washington, DC…again.  I also spent three years there as well.  This time, I am one of the on-air back up reporters at WUSA-TV.  By the way, traffic.com is now known as NAVTEQ Traffic.

My full-time employer is Salem Communcations Washington, DC, also known as WAVA-AM/FM where I am a producer and a “George Jetson” of sorts.  I stare at a computer screen and push buttons for six hours a night.

If I didn’t have enough to do, I am also one of the top bloggers on Maryland Politics.  My blog Maryland Politics Today was launched three years ago on September 9.  Since that time I have appeared on WBAL-AM and spoke at the Maryland Association of Counties conference in Summer 2008 about how government officials can get in on the wonderful world of blogging.

Well, that is me…in a nutshell.

As far as what I hope to get out of this course in particular…I am hoping that to learn something that I don’t already know.  Based on the objectives of the class, it seems that I have touched most of the basics except for video.  If there are any nuances, I am looking forward to learning those.
